Although Peter Dinklage has been in 33 movies, a dozen TV shows and numerous theatrical productions, the world NEEDS more Dinklage. I’m doing my part to spread the word of his unstoppable awesomeness.

I’ve put together a Filmography and have been documenting his rise in popularity.

Below this point are my various posts tagged with #needsmoredinklage and various related keywords to create the one-stop shop to get your Dinklage on.

Peter Drunklage? No Relation.

Our very own Peter Dinklage appeared on a Saturday Night Live sketch on April 6th during the Weekend Update segment. During an interview with Drunk Uncle (a recurring SNL character) on the state of taxes, we see Drunk Uncle’s brother-in-law, Peter Drunklage, who shares a similar proclivity to alcohol consumption and political ranting, especially against immigrants.

Judging from various commentators over the internet, some think that Peter Drunklage reflects Peter Dinklage’s views on taxes, immigration, and the Republican party. The first rule of surviving the intellectual decline in a post-literate society is to never read comments on any news article or YouTube video. I can’t speak for Mr. Dinklage’s personal political views, but I would hope that most SNL viewers, at least, would understand the level of satire that goes on in each sketch. So before assuming that Peter Dinklage is showing his support for either the GOP or chronic alcoholism, just remember 1) he’s an actor and 2) it’s SNL.

In other news, great to see Peter Dinklage on SNL! Many folks are clamoring for him to get to host the show. One day…

Peter Dinklage in Demand a Plan PSA

Peter Dinklage joins other celebrities in a PSA from Demand A Plan, an organization created by lawmakers and victims of recent mass shootings, to put an end to gun violence. Spurred by the Connecticut school shooting this past December that left 26 people dead, most of them children, the spot is very similar to other celebrity call to action videos. Watch it below.

Urging stricter gun control, the PSA video includes Peter Dinklage, Sarah Silverman, Beyonce, Aziz Ansari, Jason Bateman, Amy Poehler, Will Ferrell, Chris Rock, Steve Carrell, Ellen Degeneres and other Hollywood stars. While the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, CT was the catalyst, the Public Service Announcement lists the mass shootings in Arizona, Colorado, Texas, Virginia and Wisconsin, where gun violence has occurred in schools, workplaces, religious buildings, malls and other public places.

Demand a Plan is a campaign of Mayors Against Illegal Guns, co-founded by NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Boston Mayor Thomas Menino in 2006. Their goal is to pass legislation that will:

  • Require every gun buyer to pass a criminal background check (this would include private sales and gun show sales)
  • Get military-style assault weapons and high-capacity magazines off the streets
  • Make gun trafficking a federal crime

Hopefully something can be done to stop the gun violence. This might be a good start.

“Demand a plan. Right now.” – Peter Dinklage

Peter Dinklage is 2012 Walk for Farm Animals Spokesperson

All-around awesome guy Peter Dinklage has been named spokesperson for Farm Sanctuary’s 2012 Walk for Farm Animals, a charity event to raise awareness about the abuse farm animals face when treated like food-making machines.

Peter Dinklage, vegetarian since 16 (just like some blogger we know…), has teamed up with Farm Sancutary to promote their 2012 event, Walk for Farm Animals. Please take a minute to find out what you can do to help. Farm Sanctuary has been helping farm animals through rescue, education, and advocacy since 1986. Their Walks have raised nearly $2 million to help end farm animal abuse. If you would rather help without hoofing it, you can join the “virtual” walks without the socks. Either way helps the animals.

Fellow Arizonans can register with the Walk or with the Sleep In for Farm Animals virtual participation!

Waiting for the Emmys Tonight

If you haven’t heard the news before, I’ll speak slooowly so you don’t miss it.

The Emmy Awards are TONIGHT and Peter Dinklage is again nominated for Best Supporting Actor. I’m a bit perplexed, but I’ll get to that in a sec. Game of Thrones is also nominated for Best Drama. The big quandary in my gut is that it’s going up against Breaking Bad, my newest favoritest show. Odds are against GoT winning, but I’m gonna have to pull for it to win in the name of GRRM, D&D, Peter Dinklage and the rest of the outstanding cast. Michelle Fairley, Emilia Clarke, Lena Headey, Alfie Allen, Maisie Williams, Sophie Turner, Kit Harington, and Richard Madden were also nominated but didn’t make the Emmys short list.

Game of Thrones has already won ten billion awards (actually 6 which is just as impressive) at the Creative Arts Emmys that happened last Sunday.

So if you’ve been wondering, like I was, about why Peter Dinklage was only nominated as Best Supporting Actor instead of BEST ACTOR, it turns out it was a decision of HBO to nominate actors for only supporting roles, to avoid calling anyone out as top billing. However, we all know the truth. Tyrion is, in fact, the main character of A Song of Ice and Fire; therefore, we know he’s the main character of Game of Thrones. We let Ned take the limelight last year because we knew it was going to just FREAK OUT the newbies for him to get the axe. So while I’m a little bit sad that he won’t be winning his well-earned award, I think it’s a cool thing for HBO to do this time. Next time, really let him win. His name’s already first in the opening credits.

Since people don’t often win Best Supporting Actor for the same role two years running, I’m not sure if Peter Dinklage will win this year. He’s up against both Jesse and Gus from Breaking Bad!

I’m a Terrible Fan, But Happy Birthday

Please accept my sincere regrets and appologies for not posting, like, at all, since Season Two Game of Thrones started. It’s been a whirlwind, I’ll catch you all up eventually!

A very heartfelt, belated Happy Birthday to Mr. Peter Dinklage and Mr. Hugh Laurie, who as we all know, were born on June 11th but to different moms and in different years. Please ignore that it is now June 12th in the “real” world, and join me in spreading a little Happy Happy Joy Joy!!!

Peter Dinklage plays “Scrabble for Cheaters” Tournament

The non-profit group 826NYC is throwing a “Scrabble for Cheaters” tournament on April 21, 2012 to help support their free programs for NYC public school students. Peter Dinklage will be participating with Jonathan Marc Sherman (a friend and colleague since Bennington College) on their team Overall Wash.

This is not your typical Scrabble game. This game is for cheaters! And you can help Overall Wash cheat their way to the top by making a donation, which funds the 826NYC organization’s creative & educational programs. Help Peter & Jonathan “invent a word” on the spot, add points to any tile, and even “Surf the ‘Net” to knock the opposing team out of the tournament using the cash you donate.

From 826NYC:
“On April 21st, join Peter Dinklage, John Hodgman, Jonathan Marc Sherman, and Michael Showalter for Scrabble for Cheaters 2012, an elimination scrabble tournament, where you and a teammate play against other teams to compete for the coveted Cheater’s Cup.”

The 5th Annual Scrabble for Cheaters will be held at 12PM Saturday, April 21st
at 826NYC HQ: 372 5th Avenue, Park Slope, Brooklyn, NYC.

I’m going to start cheating right now. Here’s a link to some of the best Scrabble word lists on the Internet. If Overall Wash gets stuck, they should use ScrabbleCheat.

Game of Thrones Renwed for Third Season!

Looks like Game of Thrones has been renewed for Season 3! HBO has put in its order for 10 more episodes. Some unbelievers and doubters were sweating it up, as many expected the renewal to come immediately following this year’s season premier on April 1st.

George R R Martin will be writing an episode once more, tentatively titled “Autumn Storms”, the seventh episode of the season.

Peter Dinklage Interview in NY Times

Take a look at this great interview of Peter Dinklage in The New York Times. Titled “Peter Dinklage Was Smart to Say No”, the article refers to the actor’s strength of character in turning down roles that were ridiculous and demeaning. Lots of tidbits about his past projects – a glimpse of vintage Dinklage (aka “vinklage”) – and upcoming work. It’s great to see an in-depth and cohesive story on him and his work through the years.

Bit late to the party maybe, but glad to see Peter Dinklage nominated for the Emmy. A formality! Fans choice for years and delivered class

  2. Sky says:

    Congratulations Mr. Dinklage.

You earned this award, and I am glad to see that the voters acknowledged that fact.
I was terrified that whoever attempted to portray Tyrion would blow it, but you have managed to portray the character’s intelligence, humor, pain, wisdom and sex appeal all perfectly and I was one of many fans of Game of Thrones who you turned into a fan of Peter Dinklage.

  3. Laura Radke says:

Peter – so awesome on your emmy win !
You are such an terrific actor ! ! !
Agree with the “happy dance X 3″

  4. Stephanie says:

Peter, Congratulations on your well deserved Emmy! Tyrion is my favorite character and you have illuminated all the sad, clever, kind, and sometimes cruel parts of the role!
Could’t wait for next season and read all 5 books since the first season ended! That will have to do until next season!

  5. Leslie Christy says:

Peter, so happy about your Emmy win. I am a huge fan of Game of Thrones and absolutely love Tyrion and the way you portray him. I have become a big fan of you and am in the process of viewing your past work. You are a wonderful actor and from the interviews I have seen, appear to be a great guy. Congratulations to you and your wife on the birth of your beautiful baby girl.

  6. Glen Morris says:

Thanks for giving one of the deepest, and most nuanced, performances I’ve ever seen. I don’t think anyone has ever done a better job of portraying integrity on screen.

As the American actor James Cagney put it, some actors fill the screen, some actors don’t. You’re a giant on screen. I’ll make it a point to see everything you’re in for the rest of my life.

  7. Lionel De Miranda says:

Dear Mr Dinklage, I’m doing here what I’ve never done before : the “fan-attitude”.
I definitely became a great admirer of your work when I saw you performing Tyrion Lannister’s role. By far the most interrresting character, I was quite sure I’ll be disappointed when I heard of HBO’s adaptation.
    And then you came ;)
I saw some of your work before, as in “Nip/Tuck”, “The Baxter” or “Death at a funeral” (I’ve even watched some of “Treshold” just for you).
Knowin that you would perform Tyrion’s part was a real…relief. And no disappointment!
Hoping you would excuse me for my most approximative english, I send you the mostly kind regards from Paris, France, wishing you all luck and happiness, for you and the ones you love.
Just keep on being THAT good, and thanks a lot, Mr Dinklage.
(I’m not used in such kindness, now I should find someone I don’t like to be rude at, I guess…)

  8. My daughter has been recording the episodes for me, and got me hooked. Local library has currently 48 holds on the book, and 228 holds on the DVD for the 1st Season.
She and I are enthralled by your portrayal. How can you be the most admired character and still have us rooting for you when you engineer these plots? It’s not a pity-party, it’s admiration. I know RR Martin wrote it, but you are bringing it to life. Personally, I would have arranged something dreadful for that young deranged king, and sorry, your sister has to go.
After this series, no-one can possibly overlook your talent (sorry, no slur intended …. just seemed to express my feelings)
Full of anticipation for what is to come,
    Ms Renate B. Zacharias

  9. Robert Stone says:

Peter Dinklage you were terrific in Moliere’s The Imaginary Invalid at Bard College! Superb!! As was the entire cast, too.

  10. A says:

Peter Dinklage in “Things We Want” play poster being auctioned for charity. Autographed by Peter Dinklage, Ethan Hawke, Paul Dano, Josh Hamilton and Zoe Kazan.

  11. Terry Hendrickson says:

Absolutely Blown away by the stellar acting – the character in the book is flat compared to the life you gave him. ( not trying to dis R.R. Martin for the fab book though)… I hope to see much much more of you in the future.

  12. Maree Minter says:

Peter, congratulations on so many achievements! I have achondroplasia also and I know the barriers to just getting a job in social work as a counsellor. I have enjoyed watching you in so many performances from the sublime to the ridiculous. You have so much to offer/teach the acting world – you manage via your acting to enable the viewer to have tears of laughter and sadness. You are inspirational to all people, with a difference, who have had to give 110% in everything we do. All the best to you, Erica and your beautiful daughter!

  13. jesal shah says:

After watching game of thrones for me Tyrion lannister exists in real and i am really crazy about you.I cried when you won the war against Stannis and i hate it when they dont declare you the hand of the king(though i want you to take the iron throne and rule the seven kingdoms). I have never seen or met an actor like you.You are just amazing. Waiting for season 3 to release.
Keep up the great work and i love you Tryion.
come to India some day or please give your number.

    • Ismayil says:

A lot of people thugoht that Peter Dinklage was too handsome to play The Imp, and yeah next season’s gonna be tough. He will never be not-handsome. Although he did come close as Trumpkin the Dwarf but that’s different.

  14. Lauri J Owen says:

Anyone know how to get a hold of Mr. Dinklage? He’s a hero of mine, and my son’s, and I’d love to tell him how much I admire his heart, and his courage, and what a role model he is for my son. Twitter? Facebook?
If not: Peter, please! Join Twitter and keep us up on you.

    • Janki says:

I’m for Peter Dinklage, obviously, but Walton Goggins, as much as he cpreeed me out in The Shield, has done a fantastic job in Justified. I can see where some folk would be conflicted!

  15. BM says:

Nice blog! I also wondered if you know how to contact Peter Dinklage? It’s a bit of a tenuous link, but I want to contact him about a conservation project he has (in a very indirect way) supported. Thanks for your help!

    • spyral says:

Unfortunately, I don’t have a direct way to contact him. You can try contacting his agent via IMDbPro. There is a link on his IMDb profile page. There is a law firm that’s been listed as his contact info on some fanmail sites: Jackoway Tyerman Wertheimer Austen Mandelbaum Morris & Klein, based in LA. I’m not sure how up to date that is, but you could check with them. He’s also a spokesperson for Farm Sanctuary, so if you have a similar project they might be another source of info on how to contact him. Good luck! :)

  16. Teja says:

Ever watched the old Orson Welles Movie “The last Roman” (1967/1968) or read the novel (Felix Dahn: Ein Kampf um Rom, a struggle for rome, 1876)? Michael Dunn playing Narses is Tyrion Lannister. The novel is even better, though full of 19 century style German Nationalist Ideology. It also explains some other GoT Characters who are not properly explained by Dune:

Justinian – Robert Baratheon (and Blackadder-Richard IV)
    Theodora – Cersei
    Totila – Robb Stark
Littlefinger – Cethegus (and certainly Piter de Vries).

There are many historical and fictional characters in Tyrion, but Michael Dunn as Narses IS Trion.

If you are tired of waiting for TWoW, read Felix Dahn, a struggle for rome.

    • spyral says:

Thanks for your comment, Teja! The more I read about history the more I see the similarities in GRRM’s ASoIAF & HBO’s Game of Thrones! I hope they hook more people into learning more about historical figures and how they shaped our world.

  17. Kari Hart says:

I am looking for an email or address I can send a personal letter to. I was going to do it when I saw him on Reddits AMA, but ran out of time. TIA
