2012 Holiday Gifts Roundup: Complete ASoIaF Audiobooks

What better way to spend these long holiday nights than by listening to the complete A Song of Ice and Fire audiobooks?

This CD bundle includes the first five books in the A Song of Ice and Fire series from George RR Martin. They are all read by Tony Award winner Roy Dotrice… older versions of A Feast for Crows are read by John Lee but these are updated and shiny and new. The first two books, A Game of Thrones and A Clash of Kings are HBO Tie-in Editions, although I don’t know how that works with the Audio CDs. There seem to be issues with the print versions of this collection, so best to stick with the audiobooks or Kindle version to avoid any problems. A Storm of Swords, A Feast for Crows, and A Dance with Dragons are included here in the audio. Other hardcover or paperback sets available in the US only include the first 4 books and don’t include Dance.

This set is “complete” for now… the complete series won’t be ready for 5-20 years. Looks like this will keep you busy until the next book comes out.

Download the Kindle version to get this complete set just in time for Xmas!

2012 Holiday Gifts Roundup: Sansa Stark Diorama

Baby, it’s cold outside. Let’s make a snow castle!

Sansa Stark Diorama

Sansa Stark wasn’t in the merriest of moods when she built a tiny version of Winterfell out of the snow while up in the Eyrie. Far from home, she makes the frosty model to remind her of better times, before her father became Hand, before she met Joffrey, before being whisked away to “safety” by Littlefinger.

It is likely that Sansa represents a chain of nested symbolism from the prophesies of A Song of Ice and Fire: “I dreamt of a maid at a feast, with purple serpents in her hair, venom dripping from their fangs. And later I dreamt that maid again, slaying a savage giant in a castle built of snow.” What this moment in Sansa’s life foreshadows is a change in world orders; the rise again of the Starks sits within Sansa. She must be crafty; she must be cunning. But most of all, she must survive.

The Sansa Stark diorama is from Dark Sword Miniatures; buy it from their store page for $9.99. Sculpted by Tom Meier, each scale miniature is cast in pewter and resin and is sold unpainted. It is up to you, as artist and collector, to paint to fit your own flight of fancy. The images of the painted versions on the website feature the work of artist Marike Reimer.

2012 Holiday Gifts Roundup: GoT Shot Glasses

Complete your Game of Thrones poker night with these House sigil shot glasses!

Game of Thrones Shot Glasses

Now that you have your set of playing cards, you need to liven up your game with these shot glasses featuring 9 of the Great Houses of Westeros, plus the weird stag-burning-heart thing that Stannis made up. This ten glass set features the Stark Direwolf, the Greyjoy Kraken, the Baratheon Stag, the Arryn Eagle, the Targaryen Dragon, the Martell Spear-pierced Sun, the Tyrell Rose, the Tully Trout, the Lannister Lion, and the bastardized Stannis sigil for the splinter House Baratheon of Dragonstone. The House words are on the back; except, of course, for the Stannis cup, which only has the GoT logo because he just made all this up five minutes ago. Bottoms up!

The Game of Thrones House Sigil Shot Glasses, an HBO Store exclusive, are available for $59.99.

2012 Holiday Gifts Roundup: GoT Playing Cards

If collectible card games aren’t your thing, how about a set of “normal” playing cards?

As normal as things can be in the world of HBO’s Game of Thrones. These playing cards are perfect for poker night, and are still suitable for a collector who’d rather just stick with 52 cards (plus jokers) in a deck, thankyouverymuch. Each suit is assigned to a specific house sigil: Starks are Clubs, Baratheons are Spades, Lannisters are Diamonds and Targaryens are Hearts; each “face card” features a character portrait from the first season of the show. The final touch completes the deck with Varys as the Joker.

The 3″x4″ Game of Thrones playing card deck from Dark Horse comics are sturdy enough for regular play but are not casino-quality, all plastic construction, so shuffle this deck carefully!

2012 Holiday Gifts Roundup: Iron Throne Paperweight

If the $30,000 Iron Throne life-size replica is a bit outside of your price range, you’re in luck!

Iron Throne Paperweight

The Game of Thrones Iron Throne Paperweight makes a great gift for those aspiring towards the Iron Throne and just don’t have the budget for the life-size replica. The paperweight is a miniature version of the iconic Throne, crafted in poly-resin and hand painted, measuring a mere 5 x 4.75 inches and weighing in at only 1.35lbs.

This item makes a great gift at only $59.99 at the HBO Store; hurry while supplies last.

Iron Throne Statue

Looking to upgrade to a mid-size model of the Iron Throne? Try the Game of Thrones Iron Throne Replica Statue.

All of the Iron Throne replicas from the HBO Store are based on the seat of power of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros, as seen in the hit TV series Game of Thrones. The show is an adaptation from George RR Martin’s award-winning A Song of Ice and Fire fantasy book series.

2012 Holiday Gifts Roundup: Iron Throne Replica

Do you have what it takes to sit the Iron Throne?

Iron Throne Replica

Now you can find out if you measure up to the likes of Aegon and Viserys Targaryen, the first of their names. But it will cost you thirty grand! Plus shipping.

The Game of Thrones Life Size Replica Iron Throne is a real chair. You sit in it. You may actually be harmed by it. A great way of testing your mettle.

This replica is not made from the swords of your surrendered enemies, but instead of fiberglass and fire-proof resin, so it is unlikely to have been forged by the mighty breath of Balerian the Black Dread.

While not exactly comfy, the throne is large, measuring over 7 feet in height, and over 5 feet in depth and width. It’s also 350 pounds, so I imagine the shipping on this thing is a pretty penny. It does include white glove delivery service, so be sure to alert your local TV crews of the arrival time. Unfortunately you can’t get your new chair in time for Xmas. Be prepared to wait 6-8 weeks for them to customize and process your order. This ain’t no Mickey-D’s burger.

2012 Holiday Gifts Roundup: GoT Card Game Chapter Packs

Let’s dive into the Game of Thrones card game a little more and talk about the available Chapter Packs!

Assuming you already have A Game of Thrones LCG core set, the available Chapter Packs bring a new level of gameplay as you risk it all for the Iron Throne. Chapter Pack add-ons are sets of additional 40-60 cards (depending on version) to supplement your decks, whether they are the standard out-of-the box ones or hand-customized decks that suit your gaming style.

Unlike traditional Collectible Card Games (CCG), Fantasy Flight Games use the Living Card Game (LCG) model of boosting their playable content.

Fantasy Flight Games has a method of game additions that removes the random assortment and “rare cards” aspect that can frustrate gamers and collectors. Each expansion offers the same set of cards but leaves it open for the gamer to create their own customized, dynamic deck that suits their style. The Chapter Packs are one method (GoT expansions are another) to expand your gameplay, and there are a lot of different packs to choose from. The older version featured 40-card expansions. The new, updated version includes 60 cards, with 3 copies of each card instead of 2 as in the previous version. The good news is that many of the older 40 card packs have been updated to the revised version.

Since there are a TON of these expansions, we’ve included just a sampling of the cards available, all in the new 60-card format. You still need the Core Set to play these expansions! The Return of the Others was the last to be published in the 40-card format, but the one featured here is revised. It is part of the Defenders of the North expansion pack set, featuring Starks, Wolves & Wildlings, all of which are popular with everyone.
