Skitzo Ferret
November 1, 1992 - September 9th, 1997
My darling Skitzo has passed on to the Great Underwear Drawer in the sky.
She died early on Tuesday, September 9th - curled in her favorite Dr. Pepper box with her comfy blankie. I hope she went peacefully without any pain.
She had been sick, and been thru an operation, recovering from that trauma with the devilish stubborness and blind determination that we loved her for. Unfortunately, the vet said that it was only a matter of time before she developed another nasty tumor on her left adrenal gland. She didn't grow any fur back afterwards like she was supposed to; I guess she was farther along than we thought. Skitzo braved it well; I just thought she was slowing down due to old age, but perhaps the tumors were taking their toll. She didn't come out of her cage as often as she used to, rattled on her cage less and less - when she did come out she would half-heartedly chew up my rainbow hoo-huck bookbag and curl up in our green and blue flannel blanket. She would constantly lick my arms and hands when I cuddled her - perhaps she was saying goodbye?
Most of you never met Skitzo, only heard second-hand about her exploits, her cuteness, and her adorably evil nature. I scattered her ashes at the lake down the street from my house, where we took her on a picnic or two. She now lies around the willow tree around the lake. I think she'll like it there.
Thank you all for sharing Skitzo's life, thru stories or experiences. She will be missed.
My good friend Amerist A'Toll wrote this poetry for Skitzo. I like it a lot. Thanks, Ammie. :)
Flicker furr
dancing paws
eye to eye, playful child.
A companion to listen,
comfort and care
a silent acceptance
tender heartfelt endear.
Enshrouded this room with life
dancing in her home
memories not forgotten
nor sorrows to unmourn
Recall the glee and fun-faire way
Tiny trixter
ye live on
in dreams
in song
here in these very words ye play.
"Fear not, lass, ye'll see her again one-day..."
adan tuan Skitzo.
